I am J. No, this is not one of those "I do not want to give my name away because I want hide on the internet even though I am posting this for anyone and everyone" names, it is what I sign almost everything with, and what my nearest and dearest call me (but when I go into a changeroom and they want my name I say "J" and they are like how is that spelled and I'm like "J A Y E" to make it easier on them).
Last week I packed up what I couldn't sell and didn't have the heart to give away and moved about as far away from home as one can get while staying in the country. I had never been to Halifax before but it seemed like the place for me. I used to scour kijiji when I was sick of being home and dream about places I would like to live. Then one February day I stumbled across my dream rental: 12 ft. ceilings? check, huge windows? check, downtown? check and the list went on. I immediately replied back to the posting and was heartbroken when it was gone later in the day. Then three days later I got an email saying it was mine!
Thrilled, I caught the last day of a three day seat sale (which was over a hundred dollars less than taking the bus, and two hundred less than the train) and I set about moving on. Let me tell you, moving across the country is no easy feat. Trying to sell everything you own when it is still snowing? Just give up. It finally came together on the day before I moved. I sold my bookcases and my bed for basically nothing. I donated my kitchen and bedding items to a transition family and dropped everything else off at the Salvation army.
I packed the rest into two hockey bags (seriously, they are cheap and weigh nothing = win) and got ready to fly off. My flights were okay, I actually love flying, but I had an ear infection which made the trip not very pleasant from a comfort standpoint. Anyways, one of my best friends works at the Winnipeg airport, so we met up for my one hour layover then I was off to Montreal. From Montreal it was off to Halifax. My seat buddy on that flight was a pilot (always comforting) and when we landed he commented, with a chuckle, that I seemed very happy to be here. What an understatement. I was bouncing out of my chair!
One car rental and drive to the city I was here. Here seems pretty great.
